Palavras-chave: espectroradiometria; sensoriamento remoto; variedades de Vitis spp. Abstract To compete in the world trade market, the Brazilian wine sector is accommodating its industries and wineries to modern usages and the grape growers are now searching new forms to optimize the quality of their raw material. In other countries, the management of heterogeneous areas within the vineyards, supported by geotecnologies, has allowed the roduction of more quality wines in other countries. This paper presents the analysis of the spectral response of grapevine varieties and the subsequent steps to be implemented for the specific-site management of the vineyards. Regions of major importance in the varieties discrimination have been identified, what is going to be followed by the correlation of these and orbital data with the plants physiological characteristics and grape quality. Dissipative Dynamics of Matter Wave Soliton in Nonlinear Optical Lattice
Dynamics and stability of solitons in two-dimensional (2D) Bose-Einstein
condensates (BEC), with low-dimensional (1D) conservative plus dissipative
nonlinear optical lattices are investigated. In the case of focusing media
(with attractive atomic systems) the collapse of the wave packet is arrested by
the dissipative periodic nonlinearity. The adiabatic variation of the
background scattering length leads to metastable matter-wave solitons.
When the atom feeding mechanism is used, a dissipative soliton can exist in
focusing 2D media with 1D periodic nonlinearity. In the defocusing media
(repulsive BEC case) with harmonic trap in one dimension and one dimensional
nonlinear optical lattice in other direction, the stable soliton can exist.
This prediction of variational approach is confirmed by the full numerical
simulation of 2D Gross-Pitaevskii equation.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figure
On the accumulation of organic matter on the southeastern Brazilian continental shelf: A case study based on a sediment core from the shelf off Rio de Janeiro
Sterol and fatty acid biomarkers and isotopic composition (delta 13C and delta 15N) of bulk organic matter (OM) were quantified in a sediment core to characterize the accumulation of autochthonous OM in an area on the continental shelf adjacent to Rio de Janeiro State. In the sediment surface (0-1 cm) the concentration of total sterols and fatty acids was at least one order of magnitude higher than that measured deeper down in the core and was dominated by labile and planktonic-derived biomarker compounds. These results suggest, as is confirmed by multivariate statistical analysis, the occurrence of an event of enhanced primary production in the water column and efficient export of particles to the bottom. Similar conditions have been observed at Cabo Frio, located 150 km to the north of our study site, during an upwelling event, suggesting that such events may exert a regional influence on primary production on the south-eastern Brazilian continental shelf. Beyond the signatures from this event, the presence of biomarker compounds from vascular plants suggests the additional influence of an outflow from Guanabara Bay at the study site. These results point to the need for further investigation of the relative influence of physical forcings and continental inputs on the biogeochemical processes on the section of the continental shelf considered in the present study

Quantum chaos in nanoelectromechanical systems
We present a theoretical study of the electron-phonon coupling in suspended
nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) and investigate the resulting quantum
chaotic behavior. The phonons are associated with the vibrational modes of a
suspended rectangular dielectric plate, with free or clamped boundary
conditions, whereas the electrons are confined to a large quantum dot (QD) on
the plate's surface. The deformation potential and piezoelectric interactions
are considered. By performing standard energy-level statistics we demonstrate
that the spectral fluctuations exhibit the same distributions as those of the
Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble (GOE) or the Gaussian Unitary Ensemble (GUE),
therefore evidencing the emergence of quantum chaos. That is verified for a
large range of material and geometry parameters. In particular, the GUE
statistics occurs only in the case of a circular QD. It represents an anomalous
phenomenon, previously reported for just a small number of systems, since the
problem is time-reversal invariant. The obtained results are explained through
a detailed analysis of the Hamiltonian matrix structure.Comment: 14 pages, two column
Aerial sketchmapping for monitoring forest conditions in Southern Brazil.
Aerial sketchmapping is a simple, low cost remote sensing method used for detection and mapping of forest damage caused by biotic agents (insects, pathogens and other pests) and abiotic agents (wind, fire, storms, hurricane, ice storms) in North America. This method was introduced to Brazil in 2001/2002 via a USDA Forest Service/EMBRAPA technical exchange program, which included demonstration flights, a feasibility study, workshops, production of satellite maps, observer training and operational flights, primarily for assessment of damage caused by European wood wasp (Sirex noctilio), monkeys (Cebus nigritus), armillaria root disease (Armillaria spp.), and other damaging agents in pine plantations in Southern Brazil. New applications have been investigated in the most recent campaigns, carried out in 2003 and 2004. These include the use of this technique to monitor land use changes, evaluate the accuracy of classifications from satellite imagery, and to classify successional phases in remnants of Araucaria angustifolia forests in Southern Brazil. The operational flights have demonstrated that clearcuts, land use change detection and other anthropogenic activities may be suitably mapped and monitored from the air. Future activities are aimed at consolidation of this technique in Brazil, the identification of other damage signatures, such as those caused by the eucalyptus red gum lerp psyllid (Glycaspis brimblecombei), and the use of digital aerial sketchmapping methods
Anomalous quantum chaotic behavior in nanoelectromechanical structures
It is predicted that for sufficiently strong electron-phonon coupling an
anomalous quantum chaotic behavior develops in certain types of suspended
electro-mechanical nanostructures, here comprised by a thin cylindrical quantum
dot (billiard) on a suspended rectangular dielectric plate. The deformation
potential and piezoelectric interactions are considered. As a result of the
electron-phonon coupling between the two systems the spectral statistics of the
electro-mechanic eigenenergies exhibit an anomalous behavior. If the center of
the quantum dot is located at one of the symmetry axes of the rectangular
plate, the energy level distributions correspond to the Gaussian Orthogonal
Ensemble (GOE), otherwise they belong to the Gaussian Unitary Ensemble (GUE),
even though the system is time-reversal invariant.Comment: 4 pages, pdf forma
